Twitter is a great Social Media tool. Here’s the deal…. Twitter is here to stay and it is a great way to communicate in a myriad of ways. One of the things you need to know is that you can add friends relatively quickly and you can lose friends the same way. If someone doesn’t like what you have to say, they can quickly “un-follow” you or if they love you, they can “re-tweet you” (a compliment) and assist you in growing your list. Bottom line, its all about relationships.
Here are what I consider 5 of the top ways to “BE” on Twitter.
Be Seen. Have your twitter profile interesting and “branded”. Let people get a sense of your personality or what you or your business is about. Be sure to include your website URL, email address, telephone number (if appropriate) and other information you want them to SEE.
Be Prompt. Answer all responses or direct messages within a reasonable time-frame. Social media is a back and forth response and a dialog. You do need to spend some time on-line in order to participate, even if it means at the beginning or the end of the day. In other words, take the time every morning or evening and answer away. Your new friends and your old ones will appreciate your commitment and they will know you or “out-there” waiting to connect with them.
Be Discreet. Yes, we know that you may want to promote your business, but limit your direct marketing messages and look more at giving great advice, tips, or value. Most Twitter users appreciate more of a “soft” sell on Twitter and don’t’ want to be immediately bombarded with you trying to sell them something.
Be Consistent. Building rapport and relationship means participating. Don’t disappear for three weeks, tweet twice and disappear again. Think of it like you would building a new friendship. You call and ask how your friend is doing, what is up in their world, what are they doing today. Friendships are built one step at a time and so are friends and relationships on Twitter.
Be and Give Value. Most people on twitter want to know something they don’t already know or be reminded of something that interests them and connects them to you. Social media is about information technology. Give them tips, solutions, how to’s, great content and at the same time give them an authentic taste of who you are! Remember trust is a must-have quality on the web. Always tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
AND MOST IMPORTANT……Have FUN…

Great insight.
Value sits at the top of my list. Add value/ Receive value is the mantra of life and twitter.
Tweet content. Keep the personal tweets to a minimum but still be sociable. Remember to be a person and not a twitter account.
Great information, thank you so much. I feel so motivated just reading this. Thanks!
Great tips, Anita! I absolutely agree with all of them. I also like to take a moment or two each day and just watch the posts float by in my Tweetstream and send love to each person who sent the Tweet. It is a wonderful, uplifting exercise. I’m totally hooked on it! ♥
Solid tips, if one follows these, one will become a “champion” Tweeter! Thanks for sharing.
